Dronning Maud Land (Norge)--part: 20 degrees W. to 5 degrees E.; Bouvet Island (Norge)

How is the land laid out?

All of Dronning1 Maud Land, a claim of Norge,2 lies within Greater Antarctica. A tiny piece of the Transantarctic Mountains--the eastern end of the Shackleton Range--is within the Norwegian claim. the rest is high glacier plateau fringed with coastal mountains, which rise to at least 2,500 meters in ths area. Beyond the mountains is ice shelf, save at the tip of Cape Norvegia. Beyond the ice shelf is sea ice, varying seasonally, but at a minimum more than 100 kilometers out into the South Atlantic.

This area also includes Bouvet Island,3 well north of the continent, and also part of Norge.

Who lives there?

There are no permanent residents, just two permanent research stations, one German and one South African. Thus the administrative languages are split between German and whatever South Africa uses there, perhaps English.3 The majority religion, or religious background for the secular researchers, is Christian5--assuming the researchers are of the nationality of the administering nation.

Who was there before?

No-one even visited Greater Antarctica before the late 19th century.
