Queen(1) Maud Land (Norway(2))--part: five degrees to 25 degrees east

How is the land laid out?

This wedge of Greater Antarctica has two land and three sea zones. Most of the land is a plateau covered by a thick ice sheet. Near the coast are mountains, which rise above 3,000 meters in the Muhlig-Hofmann and the Sor Rondane ranges. At the coast--save at two peninsulas--is an ice shelf with some islands wedged in it. Beyond that is sea ice, seaonally varying in width and degree to which it is packed.

Who lives there?

There are two permanent research stations: one run by India and one by Russia, both the same staffing size. It is probable that the administrative languages are Hindi (or perhaps English) and Russian. Both are Indo-European languages. It is also probable that the predominant religions are Hinduism and Russian Orthodox Christianity, though there could also be aetheists, agnostics Moslems, Sikhs or Jains.

Who was there before?

No-one even visted Greater Antarctica before the late 19th century.
