Scotia Sea

Description

This part of the Atlantic Ocean lies east of the Drake Passage and north of the Weddell Sea. It is demarked by predominantly subterranean features, which occasionally rise above water: the Burdwood Bank, the North Scotia Ridge, the South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands (and the South Sandwich Trench), the Scotia Ridge and the South Orkney Islands. Depths reach below 5,800 meters in the west Scotia Basin, and below 3,800 meters in the East Scotia Basin.
