East China Sea

Description

This sea is defined distinctly from the rest of the Pacific Ocean, and from the seas northeast and southwest, but poorly defined to its northwest. Its importance advanced beyond navigation when oil was discovered in it in 1980. It lies entirely on the continental shelf. Gas fields of note are Chunxiao, Canxue, Tianwaitian and Duanqiao.1
