The Wollongong is the center of an urban area that includes the important coal port of Port Kembla.1 The industrial and resort city is situated on the coast, up against coal-bearing ridges southwest of Sydney, with Flagstaff Point poking out seaward. The city has a population of about 240 thousand.2
The tallest building is the Creston Apartments, which reach near to the city height limit of 150 feet. The city also boasts the Southern Hemisphere's largest Buddhist temple.3
