Vitória

Vitória,1 the capital of Espirito Santo2 State, Brasil (Brazil) is on an island at the mouth of a small river and dates from the mid-16th century. It derives its importance from the Vitória-Minas railway which brings iron ore, coffee and timber east from the interior. There are 335 thousand people in the city proper and 1.726 million in the metropolitan area.3 The tallest building is the 21 story Isla Bonita,4 a residential condominium.5 The ports of Tubarão6 and Point Ubu are major ore ports.7
