Tasman Sea

Description

This diamond-shaped sea, part of the Pacific Ocean is marked northeast by the Lord Howe Rise--its bound with the Coral Sea, to the southeast by a line from New Zealand's South Island to the Auckland Islands to Macquarie Island, to the southwest by a line from Macquarie Island to Tasmania, and to the northwest by Australia. While some of it is continental shelf, and there are some scattered sea mounts, the center is the Tasmanian Basin, dropping below 5,000 meters.

There are several gas fields of importance: Maui, Pohokura and Kupe.1
