Strait of Malacca

Description

This passage lies between the Malay Peninsula and Sumatra(1), and is so busy with ships that traffic separation rules are needed. Together with the Singapore Strait it connects the Andaman Sea to the Pacific Ocean. Its depth varies from 21 to 97 meters and its length is 500 nautical miles. The Riau Islands lie at its southeast end.
