São Paulo

São Paulo1 is near the source of the Tiete River. It is situated on the only spot that allows descent from the Sierra Geral to the sea without crossing an intervening escarpment. It is the industrial capital of Brazil, also known for its enormous exhibition hall, the Anhembi, and its art museums. There are 10.3 million people in the city proper and 20.2 million in the metropolitan area.2 The tallest structure is a 212 meter telecommuncations tower. Another building of note is the Luz train station, said to be modeled after Flinders Street Station of Melbourne.

Guarulhos has more than a million city residents2 and is the location for the Saõ Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport. Another busy airport is Congonhas-Saõ Paulo Airport. The tallest building in Guarulhos is the 31 story Melía Confort Guarulhos.3
