Sacramento

Sacramento, the capital of California in the United States of America, grew in size in the 20th century. The metropolitan area now includes 2.133 million,1 with 491 thousand in the city proper.2 The city is in the state's Central Valley where the American River flows into the Sacramento, and is a regional agricultural center. Its tallest building as of late winter 2017 is the Wells Fargo Center (423 feet, 1992). Other buildings of note include: the Renaissance Tower (372 feet, 1989) with its lobby relief of a river canyon; the State Capitol (247 feet, 1874); and the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament (218 feet, 1886).3 The Sacramento International Airport is one of the nation's busiest.4
