Richmond

Richmond is located on the right bank of the James River at the fall line. The metropolitan area, which extends to the other side, has a population of 1.258 million.1 The tallest building is 449 foot the James Monroe Building.1 The city was important during the American Civil War, both for its iron works, and for being the capital of the slavers' rebellion. Tourists visit the State Capitol, which was designed by Thomas Jefferson, a national president.
