Portland, the largest city in and former capital of Maine, USA, is located on a peninusla extending into Casco Bay (part of the Gulf of Maine). It has about 66,000 residents.1 In the second half of the 19th century it was the main port for Canadian exports. Its Old Port and Arts District are tourist attractions.
The tallest buildings are the Franklin Towers, 16 story public housing apartments. More interesting are the Portland City Hall, home to the renowned Kotzchmar organ, and the Portland Observatory (1807) atop Munjoy Hill.2
