Newcastle, northest of Sydney, is an important coal and grain port1 at the mouth of the Hunter River, and has a population of about 300 thousand.2 Until 1997 it was also an important steel manufacturer. The tallest building, reaching the statutory height limit,3 integrated itself with what had been the tallest building, the Latec House.4
