नाशिक (Nāshik)

नाशिक (Nāshik),¹ the capital of its district and division within महाराश्त्र² (Mahārāshtra), भारत (Bhārat),³ has 1.6 million metropolitan (1.5 million city) residents.⁴ It is located on the Godāvari River in the western Ghāts. It is famed for Trirashmi or Pandu Caves, Buddhist rock carvings from as old as the first century B.C.E., and as a religious destination associated with an incident in the Rāmāyama.
