Louisville-Jefferson County

Louisville-Jefferson County is a city on the Kentucky side of the falls of the Ohio River. The metropolitan area uses two bridges to extend across the river into Indiana and has a population of 1.357 million.1 Until 2000, it was called just Louisville. It has survived tornadoes (1890, 1974) and a flood triggered by a 19 inch rainfall (1937). It is famous for the Kentucky Derby, a horse racing event.

The 35 story Aegon Tower is the tallest building in Kentucky and its site includes a decorative plaza. The Humana Building is also famous; its distinctive structure is an example of Postmodernism.2
