This part of the Mediterranean Sea lies between southern Italia (Italy) and 'Ellas's (Greece's) Ionian Islands. It is connected to the Adriatic Sea by the Strait of Otranto. Its southern bound is not easily defined. Westward it connects to other parts of the Mediterranean by the Straits of Messina, Malta and Sicilia (Sicily). Eastward it connects to the Sea of Kríti (Crete), part of the Aegean.
