غرداية (Ghardāīah)

غرداية (Ghardāīah)1 had a population of 143 thousand in 2008.2 It is located south of the national capital in the M'Zab Valley of the Sahara Desert of الجزائر (al-Jazā'īr),3 in its own province. The city, part of a pentapolis, was founded in the 11th century by the Ibadi sect of Moslems. Its planned aspects, and cultural continuity earned it UNESCO World Heritage Site site status (shared with nearby towns), and tourists visit for the same reason.4
