Charleston

Charleston is a small river-side port on the coast of South Carolina, United States of America, with a population 123 thousand.1 The tallest building--including the steeple--as of early 2014 is Saint Matthew's Lutheran Church (297 feet, 1872). The city is a population tourist destination due to its preserved colonial residences. In the harbor is Fort Sumpter (1829), where the American Civil War began. The Arthur Ravenel, Jr., Bridge over the Cooper River is taller than the churches (573 feet) and, with a main span of 1546 feet, was, as of early 2014, the longest cable-stayed bridge in North America.2
