चंडीगढ़ (Chanḍīgarh)

चंडीगढ़ (Chanḍīgarh)¹) is the capital of both ਪੰਜਾਬ (Panjāb),² and हरियाणा (Hariyāna)³, states of भारत (Bhārat).⁴ It is located straddling the foothills of the Lesser Himalayas (locally called the Siwalik Range), and the plain below them. It has a metropolitan population of 1.055 million,⁵ with 961 thousand in the city itself.⁶ Albert Mayer and Le Corbusier planned the city in the 20th century. The tallest building is the Secretariat (138 feet, 1959).⁷ The city is served by चंडीगढ़ (Chanḍīgarh) International Airport, one of the nation's busiest.⁸ The runways extend into the city but the terminal is in ਸਾਹਿਬਜ਼ਾਦਾ ਅਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨਗਰ (Sāhibzādā Ajīt Singh Nagar, shortened to SAS Nagar, also known as Mohali, population 167 thousand)⁹, in ਪੰਜਾਬ (Panjāb).
