Canberra, Australia's capital, is located in the foothills of the backside of the Great Dividing Range, closer to Sydney than to Melbourne. The city's population, together with that of Queanbeyan is about 340 thousand.1 Its city began as a planned city in the garden style, centered on Lake Burley Griffin.
The Telstra [communications] Tower sits atop Black Mountain and its revolving restaurant overlooks the city. The 25 story Lovett Tower is the tallest building (base to top). There are a variety of buildings housing national institutions, including the New Parliament House.
The second most important airport in the New South Wales-ACT region is at Canberra.
