بونورة (Būnūrah)1 had a population of 35 thousand in 2008.2 It is located south of the national capital in the M'Zab Valley of the Sahara Desert of الجزائر (al-Jazā'īr),3 in غرداية (Ghardāīah)4 Province. The city, part of a pentapolis, was founded in the 11th century by the Ibadi sect of Moslems. Its planned aspects, and cultural continuity earned it UNESCO World Heritage Site site status (shared with nearby towns).
