Brisbane

Brisbane's metropolitan area approaches two million;1 no other Queensland city is comparable. This state capital is located on a river of the same name, close to Moreton Bay, which is defined by three large islands: Bribie, Moreton and North Stradbroke. The tallest building is the 81 story Infinity Tower, a residential building. Other notable buildings include City Hall (1930) with a clock tower rising 180 feet above its base, and the Customs House (1899), which now functions as a multi-use building for eating and the arts.2 Brisbane is a major grain port3 and is served by a busy airport.4
