The capital of Namibia, Windhoek, has 344 thousand residents.1 It is in a high valley, within the north center of the plateaus, just north of the Auas Mountains, and at the head of a natural path toward the coast. The city's older buildings are dwarfed by the recently built, longitudinally monumental, Supreme Court Building.
Windhoek has Namibia's most important airport.

2. The 1991 population was 147 thousand; in 2001 it was 234 thousand. Both these figures are from world-gazetteer.com, accessed 5/4/2013. 229 thousand is my interpolation for 2000.
