うるま (Uruma)

うるま (Uruma) is a city of 114 thousand1 located on the eastern coast of central Okinawa Island, Okinawa Prefecture, ⽇夲 (Nippon or Japan). The city was established in 2005 and includes the former cities of Gushikawa and Ishikawa,, as well as the Katsuren Peninsula and some small islands.2 The UNESCO World Heritage Site, "Gusuku [castle] Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryuku," includes one site in the city: Katsuren Castle,3 which flourished in the 15th century.4 Perhaps the tallest two buildings, both in the Ishikawa area, are the 13 story Hotel Nikko Yaeyama and the Hotel East China Sea.5
