Torún is a city in Kujawsko-pomorskie Province, Polska (Poland) located on the Wisła (Vistula) River with a population of 207 thousand.1 UNESCO honors its medieval center as a World Heritage Site. The riverside portion of the old wall (13th century, reconstructed in the 15th century) survives as does the Town Hall and the 15th century house of the astronomer, Copernicus (Nikolaus Kopernikus).2 The city was about half German up until the early 20th century. In the mid-20th century te city's Jews were murdered by German Christians, and subsequently the German Christians were deported by the Russians.
