1600-1700: South Asia: Exclusions

  • The only South Asian cities that topped one hundred thousand in 1600 or 1700 that are not mapped are Dacca in Bangladesh and Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir. (These areas are not mapped for any period.) Both cities started the century with less than 60 thousand residents and ended it in the 100-199 thousand range. Dacca and Srinagar grew as provincial capitals of Gūrkāniyān (the Mughal Empire).
