서귀부 (Sŏgwipo, also transliterated as Seogwipo), is a city of 153 thousand residents1 that occupies the southern half of the island of Cheju (Jeju), in 대한 (Daehan or South Korea). The city bounds include part of the island's World Heritage Site, notably the southern part of Mount Hallasan, the island's big volcano, and Sŏngsan ilch'ulbong (Seongsan ilchulbong) a flat-topped volcanic cone barely connected to the shore.2 The natural attractions bring tourists to the island.3 The tallest building as of early 2016 is the Hyatt Regency Jeju (151 feet, 12 stories, 1996).4
