Saarbrücken-Forbach

Saarbrücken,1 Deutschland,2 and Forbach, France, are the centers of a metropolitan area of 1.1 million, although the cities themselves are both smaller than a quarter of that total. Saarbrücken is on the Saar River3 and Forbach southwest of it. Saarbrücken boasts a Gothic church of St. Arnaul. The city of Völklingen has the giant former iron works, a World Heritage Site. The industrial facility was a model for large scale integration of pig-iron production, from ore handling through beam production.4
