Rotorua

Rotorua is a city on the shore of the lake with the same name, both within a caldera inland from the Bay of Plenty that lies off the east shore of New Zealand's North Island. It has 56 thousand residents in the urban area.¹ Nearby geothermal features such as the Pohutu Geyser and hot mud pools attract tourists, some of whom stay in the city's tallest building, the Novotel Rotorua (14 stories, 1998).²
