Ravenna (locally called Ravèna) is a city of 154 thousand1 within its eponymous province of the Emilia-Romagna (locally Emélia-Rumâgna) Region of Italia.2 It is a former seaport, now inland (though connected to the Adriatic by a canal). UNESCO honors eight buildings, together constituting a World Heritage Site, and all dating from the 5th to 6th centuries CE. The Neonian Baptistery is 'the finest and most complete example of an early-Christian baptistery' and the Mausoleum of Theodoric 'is the only surviving tomb of a barbarian king of this period.'3
