Poznań is located on the Warta River in the Wielkopolskie (Greater Poland) Province of west central Polska (Poland). The old parts of the city are on the left (west) bank, on Tumski Island, and on what used to be two more islands. The river's course and those of its tributaries have been modified for flood control.1 It has a metropolitan population of 1.019 million,2 with 568 thousand in the city proper.3 The Poznań-Ławica Henry K. Wieniawski Airport is one of Polska's busiest.4 The tallest building is the 21 story Andersia, for commercial offices and a hotel.5 On Tumski Island is a cathedral in which tenth and eleventh century rulers of Polska may have been buried. A number of meteorites have been recovered from the lakes and other craters in the Morasko Meteorite Nature Reserve in the northern part of the city.
