Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, has about 1.2 million residents in both the city proper and the metropolitan area. It is located in the center of the country, between the headwaters of the Red and White Volta rivers. Amongst its sites is the Parc Urbain Bangr-Weoogo, the urban park of the forest of knowledge. This park is where a sacred forest had been, which the French colonial regime had transformed into a secular city park, but which is now taking on a role closer to its original one.(1). The city's tallest building is the 12 story BCEAO Building, with each corner sticking out from the rest of the building and rising above it.(2)
