Одеса (Odesa), formerly Одессса (Odessa), is a seaport on the Black Sea in southwestern Україна (Ukrayina) with a metropolitan population of over a million.1 The city is famous for the Battleship Potemkin uprising in 1905, which took place on the steps down to the port, near a 19th century monument to the Duc de Richelieu. It is infamous for the mass murder of local Jews in 1941; 80% were killed.
The tallest buildings in 2012 are a set of several 24 story modern residential towers, although a taller building is planned.2
