Nürnberg

Nürnberg,1 Deutschland,2 has 1.2 million metropolitan residents, with less than half of them in the city proper. It is located on the Pegnitz River not far upstream from its confluence with the Rednitz3 in south central Germany. Buildings of note are the Imperial castle; the Gothic 13th to 15th century St. Lorenz Church; and the contemporary, cylindrical Business Tower.

The mathematician, Emmy Noether, was born in Erlangen, now part of this metropolitan area.
