Northest of Birmingham, along the Trent River, is Nottingham, whose metropolitan area numbered 1.1 million people in 2009, with nearly a quater million in the city proper.1 The tallest building is the 25 story Victoria Centre Flats A, a residential tower. The metropolitan area includes Derby and Belper in the Derwent Valley. The mills in those towns, between them and to the north of them constitute a World Heritage Site honoring early industrial towns.
