南砺 (Nanto) is a city of 57 thousand,1 formed in 2004, and located well south of the Noto Peninsula of Honsh in Toyama Prefecture, on Honshū Island in ⽇夲 (Nippon or Japan). The city was created in 2004 out of several settlements including Taira and Kamitaira. These last have some of the traditional steep-roofed houses that are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site called "Historic Villages of Shirakawa-go and Gokayama."2
