那覇 (Naha)

那覇 (Naha) is a city of 314 thousand1 located on the East China Sea coast of southern Okinawa Island, Okinawa Prefecture, ⽇夲 (Nippon or Japan). The city center had to be rebuilt after the World War II Battle of Okinawa.2 The UNESCO World Heritage Site, "Gusuku [castle] Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryuku," includes four sites in the city:3 Tamaudun, a 16th century mausoleum in Shuri;4 the 16th century gate of Sonohyan-utaki [-sacred natural spot]; the 14th century (or earlier) Shuri Castle, which was entirely rebuilt after World War II;2 and the 18th century Shikina-en gardens.

Perhaps the tallest building is the 20 story Hotel Nikko Naha Grand Castle (1973).5
