Modena

Modena (locally called Mòdna) is a city of 179 thousand1 within its eponymous province of the Emilia-Romagna (locally Emélia-Rumâgna) Region of Italia.2 It is centered along the Panaro River and is touched on the north by the Secchia River, both right bank tributaries of the Po. The tallest modern building is probably the Torri (167 feet).3 The city is renowned for its cathedral, the close-by Torre Civica and the adjacent Piazza Grande. The cathedral is from the 12th century (with alterations since). One of the two architects, Wiligelmo, created many of its sculptures. The two buildings and the square together constitute a UNESCO World Heritage Site.4
