Mbuji-Mayi

Mbuji-Mayi(1), the capital of Eastern(2) Kasai Region of the Democratic Republic of Congo(3), is located on the Bushimaie River(4), is the center of the diamond mining region, as the ubiquitous diamond drill shops attest. Less than a million live in the city proper, but at least 1.2 million are in the metropolitan area. The name is said to mean 'Goat Water'.
