Luxembourg (French), Lëtzebuerg (Luxembourgish) or Luxemburg (German) is the capital of the country with its name and has about 75 thousand residents,1 located at the confluence of the Alzette and Pétrusse rivers. The tallest buildings are the paired towers of the Cour de Justice at 103 meters.2 Its old quarters and fortifications are a World Heritage Site. The old quarter includes the Fish Market (Marché-aux-Possions), the Church of Saint Michel, the Notre Dame Cathedral (late Gothic), the 16th century Grand Ducal Palace. The fortifications were once so extensive that the city was known as the Gibraltar of the North3, but they were largely demolished in 1867.
