The largest city in Nigeria, Lagos, centers on an island with the same name, on the southwest coast; it is being phased out as the capital. It has a metropolitan population of 12.5 million. The tallest building is the 23 story, 83 meter National Oil Headquarters, completed in 1984. The Oba's palace is a tourist site. It is multi-ethnic within the part of Nigeria that is majority Yoruba-speaking and probably majority Christian.
