There is one city with a metropolitan area of over a million: La Paz, one of the two capitals of Bolivia. The city itself has over 800,000 people and is the highest national capital in the world, notwithstanding that it is in a low spot in the plain! The city is terraced, with more traditional Aymara living on higher levels, and more Europeanized people--and institutions--near or at the bottom.
