Krems an der Donau

Krems an der Donau is located where the Krems River flows into the Donau (Danube) in northeastern Österreich (Austria), and has 24 thousand residents.1 It is in the Wachau area, honored by UNESCO as a cultural landscape. The World Heritage Site includes terraced vineyards; the Abbey at Melk; the ruined castle at Durnstein; the Schallaburg Castle near Schollach; the Steiner Tor (Gate) and Piarist Church in Krems itself; the Göttweig Abbey near Krems; the Burgruine (ruined fortress) Aggstein north of Melk; and Schloss (Castle) Schonbuhel near Melk.
