Κόρινθος (Kórinthos)

Κόρινθος (Kórinthos),1 is a city of 30 thousand2 on an eponymous isthmus that connects the Pelopónnisou3 to the mainland, in Ελλάς (Ellás).4 It was prominent in ancient classical times and during the height of the Roman Empire, when it was called Corinthus. During the first century it was important to the spread of early Christianity.5 The old city is just outside of the modern city. Four kilometers east of the city is a canal that cuts the isthmus.
