Katowice's metropolitan area is 2.71 million,1 although only 317 thousand live in the city proper.2 It is located in Śląskie (Silesian) Province of Polska (Poland), on the Polish plateau, on headwaters of both the Odra (Oder) and the Wisła3 rivers. It is the center of the Silesian coal fields. Buildings of note include the 125 meter Altus, completed in 2002, and the 50 meter mast called the Parachute Tower Katowice. The Katowice International Airport is one of Polska's busiest.4
