Kanpur(1), the capital of Uttar Pradesh(2), India(3), has 3.3 million metropolitan residents (2007) and just under three million in the city proper. It is in the state's center on the south (right) bank of the Ganga (Ganges). It features the modern Shri Radnakrishna Temple, and nearby at Bithoor, is the Brahmavart Ghat, the place around which--in Hindu tradition--the universe resolves.
