Ярославль (Jaroslavl')

Ярославль (Jaroslavl')1 is a city of 591 thousand (2010)2 located on the right (south) bank of the Volga River, with the metropolitan area spreading out to the other bank of the Volga and around one of its right bank tributaries.3 It is the seat of its oblast, which is within the Central Federal District of Россия (Rossija).4 The tallest structure as of mid 2014 is a wired TV mast.5 The city suffered much in fires3 and was rebuilt in stone in the 16th century, then wholly re-envisioned again in the 18th. The historic center is honored as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
