İzmir, Türkiye (Turkey), is located along the Aegean, on a bay of the same name, with the metropolitan area extending into the Gediz River delta. The metropolis has a population of 3.9 million1. Its former name was Smyrna. The tallest building is the Izmir Hilton Hotel, at 142 meters and 35 stories.2 Other notable buildings are the Izmir Clock Tower (1901) and the Asansör (Elevator), an elevator to the Jewish Quarter (1907).
