North northeast of Lagos, at the edge of Nigeria's lowlands is Ibadan, the nations's intellectual center, near to the 19th century heart of Yoruba culture. It has a metropolitan population of 5.0 million1. Bower Memorial Tower, atop a hill, is the city's most prominent landmark. The tallest building is the 26 story Cocoa House, completed in 1965. The majority speak Yoruba and are probably Christians.
