Gulf of St. Lawrence1

Description

This gulf sits at the mouth of the St. Lawrence River, blocked off from the Atlantic Ocean proper by the island of Newfoundland. The river channel south of Jacques Cartier island is over 200 meters deep as is part of the passage north of that island, and also northeast toward the Strait of Belle Isle. That strait and Cabot Strait connect it with the Atlantic.
